Are these mistakes affecting your training progress?

Regardless of whether you’re just starting to get into a fitness regime or if you’ve been a regular workout-enthusiast for years, everyone has their doubts from time to time. Say you’re trying out a new move or a new machine of some sort; your unfamiliarity may cause you to ask yourself, “Am I doing this right?” Though you may not think that it’s a big deal, if the answer to that question turns out to be “No,” you may actually be hindering your overall progress.

Curious as to what the most common fitness mistakes may be? Check out this list and a few of the ways that you can get things right:

More breaks than reps – If you notice that you are fussing with your music or checking social media in between sets, or that catching up on the latest gossip is becoming more important than completing your last rep, you are not making the most of your workout. You may think you need a break but you don’t; the mind gives up before the body does, remember that! You should feel exhausted after your workout, so rest less and work more!

Sticking to your comfort zone – You may be stuck in the rut that is your comfort zone if: your usual workouts are becoming less difficult to complete; you’re no longer breaking a decent sweat; you find that you have hit a plateau in your progress when compared to before. It’s easy to step out of your comfort zone as long as you are willing to put in the effort to challenge yourself! Whether it is an additional rep or slightly increasing your weight, making a couple changes will result in a new set of changes and a new “transformation picture” to post on Instagram!

Training to eat – This is the person who goes hard during her fitness regime, reaches awesome personal records and then follows up by “rewarding” herself with your typical junk food. Over-indulging after each session puts you on the fast track to reverted progress. Just because you burned 500 calories in that last session doesn’t mean that you can go eat four slices of pizza afterwards – you just tacked that back on and all of that work was for virtually nothing! Treat yourself once in a while, but know your limits.

If you are guilty of any of these, don’t worry – it is easy to move away from them as long as you are willing to put forth the effort and accept some help from your friends at Cafe Physique!
