Dietary Counseling

Café Physique’s Dietary Counseling program is not about diets, shakes, powders or pills. It’s about looking at your life, with your unique needs, and helping you reach your goals by educating you about proper nutrition. You will receive support in addressing the obstacles blocking you from living the life you desire – one filled with good choices and healthful eating.

What should you expect to accomplish?

Café Physique offers a personalized and practical approach to nutrition by promoting balanced and healthy lifestyles. Our goal is to enhance the quality of your life by establishing consistent healthy eating habits. We do not endorse or sell nutritional products or supplements, so you can rest assured that our motives are pure.

Based on your nutrition assessment, lifestyle issues and goals, your Café Physique dietitian will help you create a new way of eating that you can sustain and enjoy for a lifetime. You’ll receive nutrition information tailored to your needs. Individualized attention and guidance move you towards success in reaching your healthy eating goals.

Since “get-skinny-quick” diets and fly-by-night weight loss schemes set most people up for long-term failure, all of our dietary assessments and consultations are based on scientific information and commonly held medical beliefs. We are committed to helping you learn how to eat right for the rest of your life.

How does dietary counseling work?

You will be asked to complete and return a 3-Day Food Diary along with a general nutrition questionnaire. The food diary is designed to capture your typical eating habits and patterns based on a few representative days. Information collected includes the time the food or beverage was consumed, the exact food or beverage item, serving sizes, how the food was prepared, where the meal or snack was consumed and how you were feeling at the time.

This information is used to prepare for a discussion about how current eating habits may be affecting your personal weight management and health goals. You will also learn about deficiencies and over-consumption of macronutrients (proteins, carbohydrates and fats) and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) and get suggestions for how to remedy any imbalances.

Your initial consultation will start with a review of your overall nutrition, and it will also include meal planning guidelines. This is a structured conversation with our registered dietitian to evaluate your eating habits, your current lifestyle and health status. The dietitian will help you identify strategies to reach your goals, whether you want to lose weight or gain weight, increase energy, improve health or reduce the risk of disease, or you just want help sorting through all of the nutrition information.

Follow-up sessions, an important component of long-term program success, include revised meal planning guidelines and may include updated strategies. Success achieving and maintaining your goals is much more likely when you meet with your dietitian again to celebrate your progress, discuss barriers you face and receive support and encouragement.

Is dietary counseling right for you?

Are you ready to improve your eating habits? Do you want guidance on choosing better food for yourself and your family? Do you want to control hunger, stop cravings and prevent binges? Are you finally ready to feel great about your body and achieve your ideal weight?

Overwhelming research has shown that a diet with the proper number of calories, the right proportions of fat, and high in fiber – fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes – can be helpful in achieving optimal weight and reduce the risk of some cancers, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and other diseases. However, many of us still have trouble eating right.

With the pace of your life today, your schedule makes losing weight and finding healthy food options seem challenging, particularly if you eat out a lot. Too often, good nutrition takes a back seat to convenience. If this sounds all too familiar, our Traditional Dietary Counseling program is for you.

No matter what your age or lifestyle, we can help you look and feel your best.
